Im Januar 2009 präsentiert Upgrade! Munich

 einen Demo-Vortrag über:

Virtuelle Mauer/ReConstructing the Wall

Weitere Sponsoren waren: Bitmanagement Software GmbH, Softline JSC, MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies und metroGap e.V.

In January 2009 Upgrade! Munich presents

 a demo lecture on:

Virtuelle Mauer/ReConstructing the Wall

an interactive 3D installation on the Berlin Wall
by the artist team T+T

The year 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall..

Only a year after the fall of the Wall in November 1989, almost all traces of the Wall had been removed. As the premiere symbol of the division of the world into two opposing political systems, people in both East and West Berlin wanted to eliminate the Wall as quickly as possible. For those who did not experience the Wall themselves, the effects of this structure on Berlin’s urban space, and on the political and sociological divisions engendered by this “Wall in people heads,” are not comprehensible today.

Virtuelle Mauer/ReConstructing the Wall is a virtual reality artwork, an interactive 3D computer graphic installation that enables users to experience a section of the Berlin Wall in its former complexity. Created by the artist team T+T, the project was developed in close cooperation and with the support of the Berlin Senate Chancellary for Cultural Affairs as an integral part of its Memorial Concept for the Berlin Wall. The artwork premiered on the 47th anniversary of the day the Wall was built, August 13, 2008, in the Museum for Communication in Berlin. In 2009 it will tour in Europe, the USA and India.

The two initiators of the project, Tamiko Thiel (Munich) und Teresa Reuter (Berlin) will hold a demo lecture on the artwork. Afterwards, visitors are invited to explore the 3D world themselves.

The primary fiscal sponser for the project was the Hauptstadtkulturfonds (Berlin Capital City Cultural Fund). Further sponsors were: Bitmanagement Software GmbH, Softline JSC, MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies and metroGap e.V.
