Upgrade!
Vancouver
"Vancouver Fraction is a collection of animated shorts and art videos by Canadian artists. The majority of the artists included are Vancouver B.C. based artists.
These videos embody a cross section of the themes inspiring video artists and animators in Canada. There are films addressing medium and the tools of animation as a source for contemplation as seen in the works of Paul Morris and Stephen Wichuk. In the works of Oliver Hockenhull and Julia Feyrer, a focus on the exchange between sound and vision explores limitless combinations in a refined and subtle manner. Finally, Sam Scott and Brandon Bloomaert incorporate both materials and sound, while simultaneously engaging narrative in traditional style for the former and experimental style in the latter.
These are a few examples of what Vancouver Fraction has to offer. The reel attempts to reflect the sensibilities in the art and media community here in Vancouver B.C."

In
October 2008 Upgrade! Munich presents:
the theme Video Art Compilations:
Vancouver Fraction
art videos from Upgrade! Vancouver
The curator Sean Arden will participate via live-stream from Vancouver B.C.
AND: Call for a
Video Art Compilation
for Munich!
Upgrade! International is a world-wide network. In the future, Upgrade! Munich will be putting more emphasis on this aspect of the network, with the goal of enriching the Munich media art scene both by bringing art and artists from other Upgrade! nodes to Munich, and by helping Munich artists participate internationally in the network.
One very successful project of the Upgrade! International network has been the exchange and exhibition of video art compilations. (Works from Scotland and Canada were shown this year in Munich in ZKMax, as part of the A DAY IN A LIFE project.)
We will therefore be putting out a call to Munich artists to submit short videoworks on the theme
Disequilibrium / Gleichgewichtsstörung
for a video art compilation to be curated by Horst Konietzny and Tamiko Thiel. At this meeting we will discuss the call and the compilation, and then send out an email with full details shortly thereafter.
As an example and enticement we will be showing the new compilation from Vancouver: FRACTION. The curator Sean Arden will participate via a live video stream.
